Tree Felling

When is Tree Felling appropriate?

Felling is often a quicker way to remove a tree although usually requires larger drop zones. Often a directional assist will be used like a pull line or wedge to ensure we are on target every time. Felling can be an efficient way to process trees, however where space is tighter dismantling may be required.

Planning

Felling can only be carried out when certain factors allow. We are trained to assess factors like:

  • Lean
  • Canopy weight
  • Stem cavities and defects
  • Type of tree and how this reacts - some types of wood split, tear or snap affecting how we fell them.
  • Location - some locations require different techniques

Before we fell a tree these factors are assessed ensuring the job can be carried out safely without causing any damage. How we fell a tree will affect where it lands.
