Pruning can be suitable for a number of reasons including: if it's too big for the surrounding area; has defects or damaged limbs that require weight reduction; or for aesthetics. Pruning can improve a tree's overall appearance and uplift an area of your garden without the need to remove the tree. All our pruning work is carried out in accordance with British Standards BS3998 which is the guideline for tree pruning and maintenance.
Pruning is much less dramatic than pollarding, leaving a natural canopy and pruned to growth suitable points, along with encouraging less erratic growth than a pollard. A reduction would usually be approximately 20-30% of the crown reduced, however this can vary depending on the species and shape of the tree and how it's grown.
